Hog Bristle
The United States imported 38,586 kilograms of hog bristle in September 2018, down 58 percent from 91,107 kilograms imported in September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 172,765 kilograms of hog bristle were imported, down
45 percent from 314,411 kilograms imported during the first nine months of 2017.
China sent 170,706 kilograms of hog bristle to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per kilogram for September 2018 was $39.91, up 233 percent from the average price per kilogram for September 2017 of $11.98. The average price per kilogram for the first nine months of 2018 was $35.82, up 82 percent from the average price per kilogram of $19.65 for the first nine months of 2017.
Broom And Mop Handles
The import total of broom and mop handles during September 2018 was 1.5 million, down 25 percent from 2 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 13.5 million broom and mop handles were imported, down
4 percent from 14.1 million for the first nine months of 2017.
During the first nine months of 2018, the United States received 6.1 million broom and mop handles from Honduras, 4.1 million from Brazil and 2.4 million from China.
The average price per handle for September 2018 was 74 cents, down 10 percent from 82 cents for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months
of 2018 was 72 cents, down 10 percent from 80 cents for the first nine months
of 2017.
Brush Backs
September 2018 imports of brush backs totaled 478,003, down 8 percent from 520,814 for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 4.1 million brush backs were imported, the same as for the first nine months of 2017.
Sri Lanka shipped 1.8 million brush backs to the United States during the first nine months of 2018, while Canada sent 1.5 million.
The average price per brush back was 42 cents during September 2018, down
21 percent from 53 cents for September 2017. For the first nine months of 2018, the average price per brush back was 50 cents, down 1 cent from the average price for the first nine months of 2017.
Metal Handles
The import total of metal handles during September 2018 was 839,963, down
40 percent from 1.4 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 15.7 million metal handles were imported, down 8 percent from 17.1 million for the first nine months of 2017.
During the first nine months of 2018, Italy exported 6.6 million metal handles to the United States, while China sent 5 million and Spain shipped 3.2 million.
The average price per handle for September 2018 was $1.19, up 10 percent from $1.08 for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was 97 cents, up 5 percent from 92 cents for the first nine months of 2017.

Brooms Of Broom Corn Valued At More Than 96 Cents
The United States imported 446,070 brooms of broom corn valued at more than
96 cents per broom during September 2018, down 1 percent from 452,843 for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 4.9 million brooms of
broom corn were imported, down 8 percent from 5.3 million for the first nine
months of 2017.
Mexico sent nearly all of the brooms to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per broom for September 2018 was $2.32, down 3 percent from $2.38 for September 2017. The average price per broom for the first nine months of 2018 was $2.40, up 1 percent from $2.38 for the first nine months of 2017.
Brooms & Brushes Of Vegetable Material
The import total of brooms and brushes of vegetable material during September 2018 was 282,550, up 63 percent from 173,736 brooms and brushes imported during September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 2.1 million brooms and brushes were imported, the same as for the first nine months of 2017.
Sri Lanka exported 1.2 million brooms and brushes to the United States during the first nine months of 2018, while China sent 454,036.
The average price per unit for September 2018 was $1.08, down 36 percent from $1.69 for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was $1.13, down 26 percent from $1.52 for the first nine months of 2017.
Toothbrushes
The United States imported 83.2 million toothbrushes in September 2018, down
12 percent from 94.7 million imported in September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 827.9 million toothbrushes were imported, up 1 percent from 820.1 million for the first nine months of 2017.
China sent 655.7 million toothbrushes to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per toothbrush for September 2018 was 24 cents, up 20
percent from 20 cents for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was also 24 cents, up 9 percent from 22 cents for the first nine months of 2017.
Hairbrushes
September 2018 imports of hairbrushes totaled 4.7 million, up 7 percent from
4.4 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 37.5 million hairbrushes were imported, down 1 percent from 38 million for the first nine
months of 2017.
China sent 37.4 million hairbrushes to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per hairbrush was 25 cents during September 2018, up
25 percent from 20 cents for September 2017. For the first nine months of 2018, the average price per hairbrush was also 25 cents, up 1 cent from the average price for the first nine months of 2017.
Shaving Brushes
The United States imported 4.6 million shaving brushes in September 2018, down 13 percent from 5.3 million imported in September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 41.7 million shaving brushes were imported, down 5 percent from 43.7 million imported during the first nine months of 2017.
China sent 28.7 million shaving brushes to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per shaving brush for September 2018 was 11 cents, down 27 percent from 15 cents for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was 14 cents, the same as for the first nine months of 2017.
Paint Rollers
The import total of paint rollers during September 2018 was 5.8 million, down
5 percent from 6.1 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 68.4 million paint rollers were imported, up 28 percent from 53.4 million during the first nine months of 2017.
China sent 56.1 million paint rollers to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per paint roller for September 2018 was 48 cents, down
6 percent from 51 cents for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was 41 cents, down 11 percent from 46 cents for the first nine months of 2017.
Paintbrushes
U.S. companies imported 23.8 million paintbrushes during September 2018, up
11 percent from 21.4 million for September 2017. Paintbrush imports for the first nine months of 2018 were 236.5 million, up 19 percent from 198.8 million for the first nine months of 2017.
China shipped 213.7 million paintbrushes to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per paintbrush for September 2018 was 27 cents, down
10 percent from 30 cents for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was 28 cents, down 7 percent from 30 cents for the first nine months of 2017.
Upright Brooms
The total import of upright brooms for September 2018 was 1.6 million, up
14 percent from 1.4 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 13.3 million upright brooms were imported, up 2 percent from 13 million
for the first nine months of 2017.
China sent 11.8 million upright brooms to the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per broom for September 2018 was $1.45, up 12 percent from $1.29 for September 2017. The average price per broom for the first nine months of 2018 was $1.37, up 10 percent from $1.24 for the first nine months of 2017.
– EXPORTS –
Export totals for the first nine months of 2018 were up in four categories outlined: toothbrushes, shaving brushes, artist brushes, and paintbrushes, compared to the first nine months of 2017.
In September 2018, three categories reported decreases, compared to September 2017: brooms and brushes of vegetable materials, shaving brushes and artist brushes.
Brooms & Brushes Of Vegetable Materials
The United States exported 7,505 dozen brooms and brushes of vegetable materials during September 2018, down 7 percent from the September 2017 total of 8,058 dozen. Exports of brooms and brushes of vegetable materials during the first nine months of 2018 were 66,811 dozen, down 7 percent from 71,638 dozen for the first nine months of 2017.
The United States sent 37,946 dozen brooms and brushes to Canada, during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per dozen brooms and brushes was $41.56 in September 2018, up 8 percent $38.35 for September 2017. The average price per dozen brooms and brushes for the first nine months of 2018 was $35.91, down 1 cent from the average price for the first nine months of 2017.
Toothbrushes
During September 2018, the United States exported 13.1 million toothbrushes, up 2 percent from 12.9 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 123.1 million toothbrushes were exported, up 20 percent from 102.8 million exported during the first nine months of 2017.
The United States exported 32.6 million toothbrushes to Canada, 22.3 million to Germany, 13 million to Hong Kong and 9.8 million to Mexico, during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per toothbrush for September 2018 was 48 cents, up 4 percent from 46 cents for September 2017. The average price per toothbrush for the first nine months of 2018 was 53 cents, down 5 percent from the average price for the first nine months of 2017 of 56 cents.
Shaving Brushes
The United States exported 1.1 million shaving brushes during September 2018, down 15 percent from 1.3 million for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 14.1 million shaving brushes were exported, up 14 percent from 12.4 million for the first nine months of 2017.
During the first nine months of 2018, the United States exported 5.5 million shaving brushes to Brazil, 2.7 million to Mexico, 2.4 million to Canada and 1 million to Italy.
The average price per shaving brush for September 2018 was $1.51, up 25 percent from $1.21 for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was $1.20, up 9 percent from the average price for the first nine months of 2017 of $1.10.
Artist Brushes
September 2018 exports of artist brushes totaled 718,690, down 16 percent
from 850,709 for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 8 million artist brushes were exported, up 10 percent from 7.3 million for the first nine months of 2017.
Canada received 5.6 million artist brushes from the United States during the first nine months of 2018.
The average price per artist brush was $4.04 during September 2018, up
10 percent from the average price for September 2017 of $3.67. For the first nine months of 2018, the average price per artist brush was $3.68, down 2 percent
from $3.77 for the first nine months of 2017.
Paintbrushes
The export total of paintbrushes during September 2018 was 233,454, up
58 percent from 147,446 for September 2017. During the first nine months of 2018, 1.9 million paintbrushes were exported, up 6 percent from 1.8 million for the first nine months of 2017.
Canada imported 1 million paintbrushes from the United States during the first nine months of 2018, while the United Kingdom received 339,454.
The average price per paintbrush for September 2018 was $5.40, down 41 percent from $9.12 for September 2017. The average price for the first nine months of 2018 was $6.64, down 2 percent from $6.79 for the first nine months of 2017.
