Raw Material Imports Up, Finished Goods Mixed, Exports Mostly Down For All Of 2021, Compared To All Of 2020

U.S. government trade figures for December 2021 indicated raw material imports were up in three categories outlined: broom and mop handles, brush backs and metal handles, compared to December 2020. For all of 2021, raw material imports were also up in three categories outlined: broom and mop handles, brush backs and metal handles, compared to all of 2020.

Import totals for December 2021 were up in four of the finished goods categories outlined: brooms and brushes of vegetable material, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and upright brooms, compared to December 2020. During all of 2021, import totals were down in four categories outlined: brooms of broom corn valued at more than 96 cents, shaving brushes, paint rollers and upright brooms, compared to all of 2020.


– RAW MATERIAL IMPORTS –


Hog Bristle

The United States imported 5,075 kilograms of hog bristle in December 2021, down 57 percent from 11,784 kilograms imported in December 2020. During all of 2021, 134,316 kilograms of hog bristle were imported, down 5 percent from 141,156 kilograms for all of 2020.

China sent 134,311 kilograms hog bristle to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per kilogram for December 2021 was $57.45, up 23 percent from $46.76 per kilogram for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per kilogram was $46.87, up 41 percent from $33.17 for all of 2020.

Broom And Mop Handles

The import total of broom and mop handles during December 2021 was 1.5 million, up 84 percent from 817,039 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 15 million broom and mop handles were imported, up 22 percent from 12.3 million for all of 2020.

During all of 2021, the United States received 8.4 million broom and mop handles from Honduras.

The average price per handle for December 2021 was 93 cents, down 2 percent from 95 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per handle was 68 cents, down 9 percent from 75 cents for all of 2020.


Brush Backs

December 2021 imports of brush backs totaled 641,383, up 159 percent from 247,360 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 5.6 million brush backs were imported, up 93 percent from 2.9 million for all of 2020.

Canada exported 2.1 million brush backs during all of 2021, while Sri Lanka sent 1.6 million.

The average price per brush back was 55 cents during December 2021, down 8 percent from 60 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price was 48 cents, down 6 percent from 51 cents for all of 2020.

Metal Handles

The import total of metal handles during December 2021 was 1.9 million, up 6 percent from 1.8 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 23 million metal handles were imported, up 9 percent from 21.1 million for all of 2020.

During all of 2021, China sent 12.6 million metal handles to the United States, while Italy exported 6.2 million and Spain sent 3.8 million.

The average price per handle for December 2021 was $1.37, up 36 percent from $1.01 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per handle was $1, up 9 percent from 92 cents for all of 2020.

Brooms Of Broom Corn Valued At More Than 96 Cents

The United States imported 354,034 brooms of broom corn valued at more than 96 cents per broom during December 2021, down 6 percent from 375,366 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 4.9 million brooms were imported, down 13 percent from 5.6 million for all of 2020.

Mexico sent nearly all the brooms to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per broom for December 2021 was $2.33, down 5 percent from $2.44 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per broom was $2.30, down 4 percent from $2.39 for all of 2020.

Brooms & Brushes Of Vegetable Material

The import total of brooms and brushes of vegetable material during December 2021 was 162,347, up 45 percent from 111,660 brooms and brushes imported during December 2020. For all of 2021, 2.3 million brooms and brushes were imported, the same as for all of 2020.

During all of 2021, Sri Lanka exported 1.3 million brooms and brushes to the United States.

The average price per unit for December 2021 was $1.84, up 77 percent from $1.04 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per unit was $1.05, up 3 percent from $1.02 for all of 2020.

Toothbrushes

The United States imported 98.9 million toothbrushes in December 2021, up 23 percent from 80.1 million imported in December 2020. During all of 2021, 958.5 million toothbrushes were imported, up 1 percent from 949.2 million for all of 2020.

China sent 701.5 million toothbrushes to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per toothbrush for December 2021 was 28 cents, down 20 percent from 35 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per toothbrush was 28 cents, up 1 cent from the average price for all of 2020.

Hairbrushes

December 2021 imports of hairbrushes totaled 6.6 million, up 27 percent from
5.2 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 61.3 million hairbrushes were imported, up 12 percent from 54.6 million for all of 2020.

China sent 52 million hairbrushes to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per hairbrush was 22 cents during December 2021, the same as for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per hairbrush was also 22 cents, down 8 percent from 24 cents for all of 2020.

Shaving Brushes

The United States imported 3.7 million shaving brushes in December 2021,
down 26 percent from 5 million imported in December 2020. During all of 2021, 66.2 million shaving brushes were imported, down 8 percent from 72.3 million
for all of 2020.

China sent 51.4 million shaving brushes to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per shaving brush for December 2021 was 17 cents, up 31 percent from 13 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per brush was 12 cents, up 20 percent from 10 cents for all of 2020.


Paint Rollers

The import total of paint rollers during December 2021 was 6.9 million, down 30 percent from 9.9 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 88.5 million paint rollers were imported, down 3 percent from 91.7 million for all of 2020.

China sent 63.5 million paint rollers to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per paint roller for December 2021 was 49 cents, up 1 cent from the average price for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per paint roller was 47 cents, the same as for all of 2020.

Paintbrushes

U.S. companies imported 26.8 million paintbrushes during December 2021, down 10 percent from 29.7 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 327.4 million paintbrushes were imported, up 7 percent from 304.8 million for all of 2020.

China shipped 302.1 million paintbrushes to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per paintbrush for December 2021 was 37 cents, down 5 percent from 39 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per paintbrush was 33 cents, down 8 percent from 36 cents for all of 2020.

Upright Brooms

The total import of upright brooms for December 2021 was 1.8 million, up 6 percent from 1.7 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 20.3 million upright brooms were imported, down less than 1 percent from 20.4 million for all of 2020.

China sent 16.9 million upright brooms to the United States during all of 2021.

The average price per broom for December 2021 was $1.48, down 5 percent from $1.56 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per broom was $1.46, up 4 percent from $1.41 for all of 2020.



– EXPORTS –

Export totals for December 2021 were up in three categories outlined: brooms and brushes of vegetable materials, shaving brushes and paintbrushes, compared to December 2020. For all of 2021, export totals
were down in four categories outlined: brooms and brushes of vegetable materials, toothbrushes, shaving brushes and artist brushes,
compared to all of 2020.

Brooms & Brushes Of Vegetable Materials

The United States exported 5,403 dozen brooms and brushes of vegetable materials during December 2021, up 79 percent from 3,025 dozen for December 2020. For all of 2021, 87,877 dozen brooms and brushes were exported, down 4 percent from 91,495 dozen for all of 2020.

The United States sent 44,682 dozen brooms and brushes to Canada
during all of 2021.

The average price per dozen brooms and brushes was $49.96 in December 2021, up 17 percent from $42.78 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per dozen brooms and brushes was $34.93, up 12 percent from $31.05 per dozen for all of 2020.

Toothbrushes

During December 2021, the United States exported 5.6 million toothbrushes, down 18 percent from 6.8 million for December 2020. During all of 2021, 93 million toothbrushes were exported, down 11 percent from 104.7 million for all of 2020.

The United States exported 21.1 million toothbrushes to Canada.

The average price per toothbrush for December 2021 was $1.21, up 27 percent from 95 cents for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per brush was 89 cents, up 6 percent from 84 cents for all of 2020.

Shaving Brushes

The United States exported 871,410 shaving brushes during December 2021, up 49 percent from 584,414 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 15 million shaving brushes were exported, down 10 percent from 16.6 million for all of 2020.

During all of 2021, the United States exported 7.2 million shaving brushes to Mexico.

The average price per shaving brush for December 2021 was $1.35, down 30 percent from $1.92 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per shaving brush was $1.06, up 1 cent from the average price for all of 2020.

Artist Brushes

December 2021 exports of artist brushes totaled 493,917, down 17 percent from 596,102 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 5.5 million artist brushes were exported, down 28 percent from 7.6 million for all of 2020.

Canada received 4.4 million artist brushes from the United States
during all of 2021.

The average price per artist brush was $3.63 during December 2021, up 32 percent from $2.74 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per artist brush was $3.87, up 34 percent from $2.89 for all of 2020.


Paintbrushes

The export total of paintbrushes during December 2021 was 159,004, up 19 percent from 133,567 for December 2020. During all of 2021, 2.6 million paintbrushes were exported, up 53 percent from 1.7 million for all of 2020.

Canada imported 1.6 million paintbrushes from the United States
during all of 2021.

The average price per paintbrush for December 2021 was $7.12, down 13 percent from $8.20 for December 2020. During all of 2021, the average price per paintbrush was $6.15, down 25 percent from $8.16 for all of 2020.

Nexstep Promotes Beth Spencer

Nexstep Commercial Products, exclusive licensee of O-Cedar, has promoted Beth Spencer to human resources/accounts receivable.
